Donald Trump has gone on an explosive online rant, threatening a major newspaper with a multi-billion dollar lawsuit after it called his Iran war a flop
Donald Trump has gone completely nuclear after slamming a newspaper report claiming his brutal war with Iran was a total flop as “treasonous”. The US president completely lost his cool on Sunday, blasting The New York Times in three separate social media rants.
The 80-year-old branded the publication “corrupt and unethical cowards” and “criminals”. The Orange Manbaby claimed he is now ready to beef up his ongoing “multi-billion dollar lawsuit” against the paper by adding fresh details of its “false and ridiculous reporting”.
Trump’s public meltdown was triggered by a piece penned by reporter Neil MacFarquhar. The article carried the biting headline: “What Changed After Almost Four Months of War? Analysts Say Not Much”.
The Times piece noted that after nearly 100 days of bloody warfare, Washington and Tehran have “reached a somewhat vague memorandum of understanding” to halt the fighting. However, it added that “sceptics are expressing bafflement over what exactly has transformed”.
The report rubbed salt in the wound by stating Iran’s nuclear programme was never actually wiped out, contrary to Trump’s boasts, and that the peace agreement fails to address Tehran’s ballistic missile capabilities.
It also stressed that “Iran’s authoritarian regime endured, albeit with new leaders. Its proxies remain a threat to the region.”
Trump completely snapped online, initially posting: “REALLY? Their Military is DONE, their Navy is GONE, their Air Force is GONE, their Launching Pads, Missiles, Drones and Manufacturing of same, is almost GONE.”
He quickly followed up with a legal threat, writing: “I will be adding all of their false and ridiculous reporting to my multi Billion Dollar lawsuit against them. They are Criminals!”
Hours later, Trump was still absolutely livid, sharing a supportive post from loyal ally Sen. Lindsey Graham before adding: “The Failing New York Times is CORRUPT!”
The Times article featured damning expert analysis, including words from MIT professor Caitlin Talmadge, who argued the peace deal didn’t happen because of American strength.
She said: “I think it’s a document that has resulted from the fact that the United States bit off more than it could chew and doesn’t want to escalate,” before adding that Trump’s deal “really raises the question of what was achieved here, especially in comparison to the original Iran nuclear deal.”
Worse still, Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has mocked the US, boasting that the war only highlighted Iran’s power to choke global gas supplies via the Strait of Hormuz.
Ghalibaf said: “Our enemies – God created them fools – turned that potential into reality.” Despite the truce, a combative Trump has continued to issue bloodthirsty warnings to Tehran.
He recently warned Iran on Fox News against blocking the crucial shipping route, saying: “You close it and you won’t have a country.” He aggressively added: “We may take over the Strait, if we have to. I’ll blow the s*** out of them.”
