A Mexico supporter was allegedly left stranded on a 13ft perimeter fence after reportedly trying to sneak into a sold-out World Cup 2026 fan zone, with a crane deployed to bring her to safety
A woman required rescue by crane after becoming trapped on fencing while attempting to infiltrate a World Cup fan zone.
The Mexico devotee found herself stuck on a 13ft perimeter barrier while endeavouring to slip into the sold-out gathering. The drama occurred as thousands assembled to witness the Round of 16 encounter between Mexico and Ecuador.
Every entry point had been sealed owing to maximum capacity. The woman attempted to climb the metal obstruction but became jammed midway up. She found herself unable to progress forwards or retreat downwards. Emergency services were summoned after multiple efforts to liberate her proved unsuccessful.
A telescopic crane was brought in to safely extract her from atop the barrier.
Protection Civil and emergency crews orchestrated the rescue operation without additional complications.
The supporter was permitted to depart the vicinity following medical assessments.
The spectacle occurred at Fundidora Park in Monterrey, Mexico, throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup celebrations.
Officials had encouraged supporters to view the Mexico versus Ecuador battle at alternative locations such as the Macroplaza, according to creatorzine. com.
The co-hosts triumphed over Ecuador 2-0 courtesy of first-half strikes from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez, breaking a 40-year knockout phase jinx.
They will now meet England in the Round of 16 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on July 5.
Meanwhile, at least three people have died during festivities in Mexico City as the nation’s football team progressed to the round of 16 at the World Cup, local authorities confirmed.
According to the city’s health secretary, a 19-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man died of asphyxiation on Wednesday (June 30). The tragedy unfolded at Paseo de la Reforma and Lancaster, in the Colonia Juárez neighbourhood, when revellers were reportedly crushed against a public toilet trailer. A third fatality was later confirmed with a 48-year-old woman, who also died from asphyxiation.
The Health Secretariat stated: “On the streets of Hamburg and Lancaster, a report was received of two unconscious people, so the emergency response teams made up of paramedics, firefighters, Civil Protection personnel, officials from the Government Secretariat and preventive police officers went to the point to provide assistance; after performing first aid and CPR techniques on the patients, they were transferred to a hospital for specialized medical care.”
In a later post, the Health Secretariat provided an update confirming the ages of those who had sadly died.
The post said: “After receiving advanced resuscitation manoeuvres, the death by asphyxiation is confirmed of a 44-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, already identified by their family members.
“From the Government of Mexico City, we send our condolences to family members, friends, and loved ones, to whom all the support they require will be provided during these difficult times.”
