Arsenal are not resting on their laurels as Premier League champions and have swooped to complete another signing this summer transfer window with more seemingly to come.
Mikel Arteta managed to end a 22-year title drought last season after years of agonising second-placed finishes to prove his detractors wrong and finally put major silverware back in the trophy cabinet of the North London giants.
Now, having narrowly missed out on a dream double following the heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout, the Spanish coach is again splashing the cash after a £250m outlay last summer bore fruit. Christos Tzolis signing completed
Arsenal have confirmed the acquisition of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge.
The 24-year-old Greece international has signed a five-year contract following his £34m move to north London.
Tzolis came up against Arsenal during their Champions League league phase encounter with Brugge last season. While he failed to find the net that night, the winger achieved a remarkable 51 goal contributions across 52 outings for the Belgian side last campaign.
He previously struggled at Norwich earlier in his career, when he made 14 appearances in the Premier League in the 2021–22 but failed to score a single goal.
He will wear the No. 17 shirt at the Emirates Stadium and is viewed as a replacement for Leandro Trossard, who left for Besiktas last week, reports the Mirror.
Tzolis said: “It’s absolutely amazing to sign for such a big club, the champions of England. I’m very proud to be part of this team for the next season.
“When my agent was saying maybe it was a possibility, I was already excited. Afterwards it was getting more serious and now I’m here. I had a nice conversation [with Mikel Arteta]. It was around an hour. We talked about everything, about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team. It was only positive things.”
Yan Diomande latest
Arsenal are reportedly targeting Yan Diomande as an alternative to Rogers following their failure to land the England star.
The Gunners’ requirement for a marquee left-wing addition remains their top priority, with a potential swoop for RB Leipzig talent Diomande now under consideration, after months of him being linked to a move to rivals Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Football.london reports Arsenal have expressed interest in the 19-year-old prodigy, who caught the eye at the World Cup with his sparkling performances for Ivory Coast. The report indicates the Gunners have requested to be kept updated on the Ivorian.
Arsenal estimated Rogers’ worth at approximately £80m but failed to meet Aston Villa’s valuation of the midfielder, resulting in them missing out on his services to Chelsea, who finalised the deal for £117m.
Diomande is anticipated to command a fee of around £94m this summer, with Liverpool already having an £85m offer for the player turned down.
Diomande is reported to prefer a move to PSG. However, the European champions have not yet satisfied Leipzig’s asking price either.
Arsenal’s enquiry is understood to have been purely preliminary at the time and the club have not progressed further during the transfer window thus far.
