Liverpool’s summer is threatening to be derailed as the Reds have been dealt a transfer hammer blow in their pursuit of Maghnes Akliouche.

The young Monaco star had been touted as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah, but, once again, Andoni Iraola will have to duke it out with PSG if he wants their signature – having already been locked in a battle for Yan Diomande.

Iraola has been candid about his requirement to strengthen his squad before his inaugural season in charge. The Reds manager has also outlined the positions within his backroom team, and Daily Star Sport examines the latest developments emerging from Anfield.

The Reds manager has revealed that Pablo de la Torre will serve as his assistant at Liverpool. Iraola brought his compatriot, Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper with him to Merseyside last month, reports the Mirror.

De La Torre has collaborated with Iraola since their Rayo Vallecano period and was formerly recognised as the fitness coach at the La Liga club and Bournemouth. The 43-year-old discussed the significance of his trusted coaches: “For me, it was important they came with me.

“Pablo is a physical coach but has been with me almost all the years I have been coaching. So for me, he is much more than a physical coach, really. He is an assistant and we know each other very well.”

Liverpool remain in the hunt for a winger with the club still to secure a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Monaco and France star Akliouche has been mooted as a target for the Reds, according to Sky Sports.

Nevertheless, the Premier League outfit are once more locked in battle with PSG as the clubs previously clashed in the pursuit of Yan Diomande earlier this summer.

The RB Leipzig star is understood to favour a switch to the Champions League holders and a similar narrative has allegedly emerged in Akliouche’s situation.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested his desires to join the French champions, with the two sides already reaching agreement on personal terms. He did urge caution over supporters believing the Frenchman’s transfer to PSG is sealed, clarifying that talks between the clubs remain incomplete.
