The long-asked question on how to get a pub-quality pint from home has finally been answered with PerfectDraft providing the perfect solution to the problem with their latest gadget
Now that summer is here and the UK is set to head into yet another heatwave – more and more of us are hosting BBQs and making the most of our homes and gardens.
But while a home set-up might be ideal, it’s no secret there are some things that are just better served out. I thought the same, until I got the chance to try out my new favourite kitchen gadget. The PerfectDraft Pro Beer Machine in Silver and Black has transformed the way I host.
Currently at the price point of £299, the smaller-than-expected machine certainly packs a punch. It delivers crisp, pub-quality draft beer, while its intuitive LCD screen effortlessly tracks temperature, volume, and freshness.
I decided to put it to the test during the heatwave. Much to my delight, the machine arrives mostly assembled. You simply slot in the tap handle, drip tray, and brand medallion.
Connecting a keg takes minutes – click the tap unit onto the keg, feed the tube through, drop the keg into place, and lock down two blue levers.
While the machine essentially has one job, it does it well.
The clear front LCD screen displays beer temperature, an eight-step level indicator, and a 30-day freshness countdown. It shows a red light while chilling and a green light when ready to pour.
The main drawback, however, remains the timings. Cooling a room-temperature keg takes a lengthy 12 to 15 hours. Pre-chilling kegs in a fridge helps, but at roughly 10 to 12 pints per keg, it’s better suited to intimate gatherings than massive blowouts.
But PerfectDraft have one handy feature to help you get around that – an app. Simply pre cool your beer with a few taps to their recommended temperatures, and you’re sorted before you get home.
It also sends you a handy reminder when your keg is about to expire.
In practice, the machine is a complete delight. Pours are smooth, head formation is easy to control, and the beer tastes identical to a pub pour. Allowing guests to pour their own pints – to varying levels of success – also brings a great social element to your evening.
