Manchester United are playing their final pre-season friendly of the summer ahead of an opening Premier League fixture at newly-promoted Hull City
Manchester United fans were left frustrated after MUTV’s coverage of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan was plagued with issues. The Red Devils are playing their final friendly before kicking off their Premier League campaign at Hull City on August 22.
Michael Carrick’s side have looked promising in their preparations for the new season, with results including a good win over Atletico Madrid before holding European champions Paris Saint-Germain to a draw.
United are being reunited on Saturday with their former head coach, Ruben Amorim, who was appointed as Milan’s new boss in June. The Portuguese boss left United in January and is now looking to rebuild his career with the Serie A giants.

But those hoping to watch the game have been left with problems. The action on MUTV cut off in the first-half as the screen went blank before a picture of the stadium in Wroclaw, Poland was shown.
Commentator Sam Matterface could then be heard sounding helpless. He said: “What do we do here? We’ve got no pictures.”
And fans were quick to voice their frustration on X. Taking to social media, one fan said: “MUTV coverage is absolutely awful today, topped off with the ‘what do you want us to do here’ from Matterface when they lost pictures #MUFC.”
A second added: “Haha! MUTV Sam Matterface asking: “what do we do here, we’ve got no pictures?”
“Incredible hearing a commentary team when they take away the stadium noise, sounds like they’re in a tiny booth!”
Fans from outside of the UK were also not happy about the game not being available to watch. “MUTV is ridiculous, you know. I’m paying for it and I can’t even watch the game because I’m outside the UK. What’s the point of having it then? #mufc,” one said.
A second added: “Nice of MUTV to let people know they won’t be showing the game outside of UK and Ireland 5 mins before kick off.”
Countdown to Kickoff: The Essential 26/27 Sky Sports Bundle
Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle includes at least 215 live Premier League clashes across the 2026/27 season, with more than 1,500 games from the EFL and beyond, plus F1, golf and darts.
This introductory offer saves £384 compared to the standard price, with every package also providing 100 regular channels alongside free Netflix and discovery+ subscriptions.
“Is this not on MUTV?? It says commentary only?” A third said. A fourth said: “Why am I subscribing to MUTV if you won’t show me the preseason games that you’re showing UK and Ireland subscribers? Really disappointing.”
The fixture started well for Carrick’s men with defender Harry Maguire opening the scoring in just the second minute. Both sides did, however, go in at half-time level with Samuel Chukweze equalising before Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty.
However, Patrick Dorgu gave United the lead after the break, capitalising on some slack play at the back from Milan. Alphadjo Cisse then slammed the ball in from close range to equalise for the Italian team once more, before Goncalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek added two more for the Italian side.
