Liverpool have continued their summer spending, as Andoni Iraola’s side have agreed a £30m transfer with a medical already booked.

The Reds have reached a verbal agreement with Genk to sign Lucca Brughmans. The Belgian, 18, emerged as a surprise target for the Premier League giants after Nottingham Forest enquired about the availability of Giorgi Mamardashvili.

However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, any deal involving the shot-stopper will see him move next summer. Posting on social media, Romano said: “Liverpool have reached verbal agreement with Genk to sign 18 year old goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans, here we go!

“Deal worth €35m package, expected to join in summer 2027 as #LFC already got the authorization for medical. Formal steps are yet to follow after medical.”

A report from HLN in Belgium adds that Brughmans still needs to reach an agreement with Liverpool himself – but that is not expected to be an issue.

Brughmans bounced around youth teams in the Netherlands and Belgium before making his professional debut with Jong Genk. He made his nine appearances for the senior team in the Pro League last season.

The Reds currently have Freddie Woodman on the books as third-choice goalkeeper – and a report from the Liverpool ECHO claims interest in Brughmans is only likely to intensify if Mamardashvili seeks to leave after a year on Merseyside.

The Georgian initially agreed to join the Reds from Valencia in the summer of 2024 in a £29m deal that was agreed for the following summer.

Mamardashvili made 20 appearances last season under Arne Slot, but his main role was as a back-up for when Alisson Becker was sidelined for a couple of months with a muscle injury.
