A former Liverpool star who made eight appearances for the Reds under legendary boss Jurgen Klopp is now looking for a new club on LinkeIn after his career took a downward turn
A midfielder who Jurgen Klopp gave a Premier League debut to aged 18 has taken new measures in his search for a new club after a call on LinkedIn.
Former Liverpool starlet Ovie Ejaria has turned to the professional networking site in his quest to find a way back into football. The 28-year-old has been without a club since his release from Real Oviedo. The London-born midfielder is looking for a path into the game.
He made eight appearances for the Reds and was handed his debut by the now Germany manager Klopp just weeks before turning 19 in 2016. During his time at Anfield, he had loan spells with Sunderland, Rangers and Reading, before sealing a permanent switch to the Royals in 2020.
He clocked up 127 appearances at the Berkshire outfit but has since found himself clubless following an unsuccessful period at Oviedo in Spain.
His six-year stint at Reading was disrupted by knee problems and after being released by Oviedo, he has remained out of the game. Almost exactly 10 years since his top-flight bow in Liverpool‘s 6-1 triumph over Watford, Ejaria has resorted to fresh tactics to secure his return to football.
He posted: “I’m currently a free agent and looking for the right opportunity. I’m keeping the details brief for now, but if there’s an opportunity or you know of a club looking for midfielder — (6, 8 and 10) or someone who can play as a left winger, please feel free to DM me.”
Two of Ejaria’s eight Liverpool outings came in the Premier League while he featured three times in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
He had arrived at Liverpool from Arsenal in 2014 and was training with Klopp’s first team by September 2016. The legendary German boss famously cited Ejaria as a role model for youngsters stepping up to the senior squad during training camps.
The midfielder caught Klopp’s attention during a March training camp. He said: “I told the boys before the session [on Tuesday] that last year, Ovie Ejaria came onto my plate, if you want.
“I saw him here first. I knew him, I saw him playing a few times, but here having him around for four days and seeing him in small spaces in the sessions against the ‘adults’, if you want, was very important for him and for me.

“It’s an opportunity. You can see in their eyes they know it; they are really ambitious when they think about the sessions and we will try to do everything we can to give them the opportunity to impress.
“There’s no doubt about the attitude, there’s no doubt about quality – it’s only a question of are they already ready or not? If not, then they still have time. If yes, then let’s make the next step.”
Gerrard, meanwhile, secured Ejaria on loan while managing Rangers. Despite just spending half-a-season at Ibrox, the former Liverpool skipper’s views on the promising talent were evident.
“I have always said to Ovie that nobody will ever judge you in terms of technical ability because you have got more technical ability than anyone, than I ever had.'”
