The body of a missing woman from Nottingham has been discovered following an 11-day search.
Holly Whittaker, 28, was last seen in the Mapperley area on September 4, prompting police to issue an appeal for information. Holly was last spotted in the Mapperley area on September 4 and officers have been tirelessly searching for her since then.
In an update on September 16, Nottinghamshire Police announced that a woman’s body had been found near Queen’s Road in Nottingham city centre the previous afternoon. Holly has now been formally identified as the individual discovered, and her death is not being treated as suspicious, according to the police.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our specially-trained officers are supporting Holly’s family at this difficult time, following yesterday’s tragic development.
“While the circumstances are still being investigated, at this time, we are not treating her death as suspicious.”, reports the Express.
“We would like to thank everyone who came forward with any information or shared our public appeals since Holly was first reported missing.
“A file will now be prepared for the coroner as our investigations continue.”
It comes after police revealed the body of a child has been found in the search for Noah Woods, who went missing from the village of Brantham in Suffolk. Noah, three, disappeared after a visit to a play area in the village on Tuesday afternoon (September 15) when he became separated from a relative.
The body was found in Decoy Pond in Brantham this afternoon (September 17) and Noah’s family have been informed. The superintendent added that formal Identification is yet to take place but they will be informing the coroner.
Superintendent Pearse said the incident is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.
He said: “These five teams this afternoon have sadly found a body of a child in Decoy Pond in Brantham. Formal identification is yet to take place. The family of Noah Woods has been informed of these developments.
“The discovery of the body is currently being treated as not suspicious but unexplained. The coroner will be informed of this development.”
A massive search operation supported by hundreds of volunteers was launched to find the boy before the tragic news was confirmed by police.
Superintendent Tom Pearse added that family of Noah now need “time, space and privacy”.
He said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with Noah’s family and all those who knew them. Since Noah was reported missing, vast number of our officers and staff have been deployed in numerous functions in the search for Noah, and the support for his family.
“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of public support and people putting on their boots to help us with the search.
“As a parent myself, I completely understand why people would want to help, and such a response is one that typifies the strong sense of community and the heartwarming nature of Suffolk people that make the county such a special place.
“I’m sure you appreciate that the family now need time, space, and privacy, and I thank you for your understanding of this.”
