Liverpool handed enormous harm replace as Alexander Isak stance clear forward of Real Madrid

Alexander Isak was once again missing as Liverpool stepped up their preparations for the Champions League showdown against Real Madrid on Tuesday

Alexander Isak was notably absent from Liverpool’s training session as they ramped up their preparations for the Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday.

However, Curtis Jones has made a return to training after missing the last two matches due to a groin issue.

Isak hasn’t played since being substituted at half-time during the Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago, after reporting groin discomfort.

The Swedish striker was still absent when Liverpool trained at the AXA Training Centre on Monday afternoon.

He now faces a race against time to be fit for Sunday’s Premier League match against Manchester City.

Injured duo Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong continue to be sidelined, while centre-back Giovanni Leoni is out for the season following ACL surgery, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Several Academy players, including Kaide Gordon, Wellity Lucky, Calvin Ramsay and Tommy Pilling, joined Liverpool’s senior squad for the training session.

Liverpool have secured six points from three matches in the opening stage of the Champions League, while Real Madrid boast a perfect record in this season’s competition.

Liverpool, however, got back to winning ways over the weekend as they stopped their Premier League rot against Aston Villa.

“Happy with the result, with the performance and what I saw today, not only from the players but also the support we got from the fans, was what we needed today,” Slot said after the game.

“Maybe we were a bit more on the lucky side than we’ve been in the last few weeks, where in my opinion we were also unlucky. So, the mistake of their goalkeeper and the deflection led to two of our goals.

“These are the margins we are talking about. I think in other games we’ve created more from open play than we did today. But in football it’s about results, not about the chances you create from open play.”
