Luke Littler amongst prime darts stars to endorse ‘Royal Rumble’ after announcement

Months after Luke Littler and Luke Humphries backed the idea, a Royal Rumble-style event will be added to the MODUS Super Series schedule next year

MODUS Super Series have revealed plans for a Royal Rumble darts spectacular in 2026 – several months after Luke Littler and Luke Humphries backed the concept. For those not familiar with WWE, the Royal Rumble begins with two wrestlers in the ring, before surprise participants enter the contest every two minutes.

A darts version of the Royal Rumble has been confirmed for next year but no further details have been provided by the organisation. The MODUS Super Series launched in September 2022 and have a weekly international competition held in a purpose-built venue in Portsmouth.

Some PDC stars past and present have featured previously with the likes of Fallon Sherrock, Martin Adams, Robert Thornton, Kevin Painter, Mikuru Suzuki and Thibault Tricole among the notable competitors.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League Darts Final night in May, the world’s top two players – Littler and Humphries – were enthusiastic about bringing a Royal Rumble-style tournament to their sport.

Given the electric atmosphere at darts events and supporters’ love of entrance music, both Littler and Humphries believed the format could work brilliantly in their discipline.

Littler told SPORTbible: “Phil Taylor might be entry 30, the mighty return.

“I don’t think you could go above one leg of 501. Straight away, one leg, the loser goes off, and then the next player, they’ll do the walk-on, and so on and so on.”

Humphries shared similar excitement, saying: “I think it’d be good. The thing is, you probably couldn’t rank it or anything because you’d have to make sure you’re not taking too much away from the seriousness of the sport. But I think it would be a good laugh, a good bit of fun. I think the fans would love it as well.”

But both Littler and Humphries will be unable to participate. This is due to the event being organised by MODUS Super Series, which only allows non-PDC Tour Card holders and legends of the sport to compete.

Adrian Lewis, a former two-time world champion who hasn’t competed in the PDC since April 2023, participated in the MODUS Super Series in 2025. Indeed, ‘Jackpot’ made his return to competitive darts in August, teaming up with BDO World Champion Steve Beaton to represent England in the pairs tournament.

Lewis was featured on the MODUS announcement graphic, suggesting he may take part in the Royal Rumble.

While Littler and Humphries are ineligible for the MODUS Royal Rumble due to holding a PDC Tour Card, their immediate attention will be on the PDC World Championship.

Both players have advanced to the third round at Alexandra Palace, with ‘the Nuke’ defeating Darius Labanauskas and David Davies, and ‘Cool Hand’ securing victories over Ted Evetts and Paul Lim.

Littler’s next opponent is Austrian Mensur Suljovic, while Humphries will face German Gabriel Clemens.

The action at Ally Pally resumes on Saturday afternoon, after a three-day hiatus for Christmas.
