Mum-of-four dies in ‘unnecessary’ crash as husband says ‘our previous lives have ended’
Donna Ball, 48, was involved in a collision on the A4119 bypass at Williamstown, near Tonypandy in Rhondda on December 29 – a 19-year-old man has been arrested
Tributes have been paid to a devoted mum-of-four who was killed in a horror crash. Five people were rushed to hospital after a car and a van collided on the A4119 bypass at Williamstown, near Tonypandy in the Rhondda, on the morning of Monday, December 29.
Donna Ball, aged 48, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but sadly passed away on Tuesday, December 30. Her young daughter remains in hospital, reports Wales Online.
Donna’s husband expressed their family’s grief, stating they were “devastated by the sudden, tragic, and needless death of our beloved Donna.”
The van’s driver, a 19-year-old from Newport, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, along with two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries until March 30.
In memory of Donna, her husband said: “We, as a family, are devastated by the sudden, tragic, and needless death of our beloved Donna.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to all the emergency services who attended, including the air ambulance, Accident and Emergency, and the critical care teams at the University Hospital of Wales.
“Ongoing, I cannot express my thanks enough to the staff and doctors of Owl Ward and Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales for their care of our daughter.
“Donna’s passing has left a huge void that can never be filled. Our old lives have ended; our lives without her begin now. We are overwhelmed by the messages of love and condolence we have received.
“We take great solace in the high regard in which she was held by so many. Rest easy, my love, until I see you again.”
A JustGiving page set up to help Donna’s family has collected over £2,300. It states: “Donna was a deeply loved wife and a devoted mother to her four children. An incredibly kind and generous person who would go out of her way to help anyone in need.
“Family was everything to her, and anyone who knew Donna knew how deeply she cared for and supported her children. She dedicated herself to their happiness and wellbeing, and always made sure they shared special family holidays together, these being precious moments that will be forever treasured.
“Donna will be missed more than words can express. This fundraiser has been set up to support her husband and children during this incredibly difficult time, and to help ease some of the practical pressures that can arise after the loss of a loved one. Any contribution, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated.”
South Wales Police continues to request witnesses of the collision or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to step forward. Officers are also keen on any information regarding the driving behaviour of the van driver prior to the collision.
