Passengers are trapped beneath a train after it derailed with emergency services rushing to the scene.

Seven cars of a Chelyabinsk-Moscow passenger train derailed on Friday in Russia’s Ulyanovsk region, according to Russian Railways. It happened at 6.26am Moscow time near Bryandino station.

Around 415 passengers were on board and people were said to be stuck underneath the train, with some having suffered injuries. Officials are currently clarifying how many have been injured, reports REN TV, but around 22 people are thought to be hurt. One of the injured is believed to be a child.

According to Baza, most passengers have suffered minor injuries and one person is reportedly trapped in the toilet “calling for help”. Emergency services are currently at the scene, with passengers helping each other get out of the cars. Men have been seen pulling people out through the windows.
