Ring rival Blink reveals new £40 machine that provides households ‘peace of thoughts’
‘The video quality is super sharp and the night vision in colour looks way better than I expected’
Households looking to invest in a home camera can find an affordable option from smart home security firm Blink. The brand rivals Ring in the camera doorbell space, but also offers indoor devices.
Indoor cameras are ideal for keeping an eye on pets when you’re away from home. Another reason people buy them is to ensure their children are around the home. The Blink Mini 2K+ (newest gen) is priced at £39.99 on Amazon.
The third-generation compact plug-in camera promises to deliver sharper video and improved audio, so users can talk to the camera, whoever is in the room. It has a mount so it can be easily placed on any flat surface in the home.
The Blink Mini 2K+ (newest gen) is equipped with noise cancellation and a zoom option. Owners can also store their footage in the cloud with a free 30-day trial of the Blink Plus Subscription Plan. It also has night vision.
For other options, Blink rival Ring sells an Indoor Camera Plus (newest gen), which is currently on sale at Amazon for £34.99, down from £49.99. The device saves recorded videos for up to 180 days to rewatch at any time, and gives alerts when people are detected.

The indoor camera promises sharper video and clearer audio for always-on protection.
Elsewhere, Argos has the Tapo Wi-Fi Home Security Camera for £34.99. It uses motion detection and notifies users when it detects movement. As we mentioned above, the Blink Mini 2K+ does come with a free trial of the Blink Plus subscription, which is said to help with cloud storage, but it’s not a necessity for usual function.
The Blink Mini 2K+ (newest gen) has more than 400 reviews on Amazon and an overall rating of 4.4. One consumer penned: “Provides excellent peace of mind. Great value for money. Blink is a good solution for home security. Picture quality is excellent, as are the detection options. Recommended.”
Another customer said: “I got the Blink Mini 2K+ a few weeks ago and I’m honestly impressed. The video quality is super sharp, and the night vision in colour looks way better than I expected.
“Setup took just a few minutes, and it worked right away with Alexa. The two-way audio is clear, and the noise cancellation actually makes a big difference when talking through it. Overall, it’s a great little camera for the price and gives me peace of mind.”
Not all buyers were as pleased, as one user had WiFi problems, explaining: “Wifi reception is not as good as other Blink cameras I have.”
Another user said: “I already have a Blink doorbell, but I thought I would try this camera on the landing, pointing out toward the front of the house. It works a treat, and the quality of the view is very good; it picks up movement 200 metres down the road. For me, it works very well with the doorbell, and I am surprised by the quality.”
Another shopper said: “Great item, just what I was looking for. Compact and well-made, with excellent picture quality. Great night vision facility. All in all, a good small item at a great price.”
A final consumer concluded: “I’ve had a few Blink devices, and this one is just as good. Easy to set up, and if you use it with the Blink app, it gives a very good picture. The motion detection is very good too and picks up the faintest movement, sending a warning of movement to your phone if you use the Blink Plus service. You get a 30-day trial for free. The night vision is very good too, especially for such a small camera.”
