British toddler, 2, ‘kidnapped’ in Cyprus as manhunt launched after suspect flees in automobile
The father reportedly stormed the Limassol home with an accomplice before allegedly snatching the child and fleeing in a small white car, with a manhunt now underway
A British toddler has allegedly been abducted by his father in Cyprus. Local police report that the 29-year-old Turkish Cypriot man took the two-year-old child from his British mother’s residence in the holiday hotspot of Limassol after unlawfully crossing from the north.
The father is reported to have stormed the property with an accomplice at 7:50am local time on Wednesday, before seizing the child and making a swift exit in a small white car. A manhunt is now in progress to locate him, with police having already conducted a search on the escape vehicle.
Police suspect the man returned to the island’s northern Turkish-occupied territories, with an island task force alerted to the incident, reports the Mirror.
Deputy police chief of Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, stated the father was already subject to an arrest warrant after the British mum reported him for domestic violence in November last year.
The woman is part of the ‘Hope’ programme which provides support to victims of domestic abuse, according to local outlet Protothema.
