Teen, 16, arrested after UK college locked down as dad and mom warned ‘don’t come’
Childwall Sports and Science Academy was placed into lockdown earlier today after a threat was believed to have been made towards a pupil at the Merseyside school
A boy has been arrested after a school was put into lockdown. Childwall Sports and Science Academy was placed under lockdown following what was believed to be a threat directed at a pupil at the establishment.
The threat was allegedly made at approximately midday today, May 14, with the academy confirming to the ECHO that it had implemented lockdown protocols while Merseyside Police attended the site. There was no broader threat to other pupils or staff members at the school. Officers said the school chose to lockdown following its own safety procedures.
Parents were instructed not to come to the school in a letter dispatched from Childwall Sports and Science Academy, though parents were spotted rushing to the school to retrieve their children after news of the threat emerged.
The ECHO was informed how the building was secured as a message displayed on screens throughout the school and in classrooms, with pupils forbidden from leaving class during lunch, reports the Liverpool Echo.
In an update from Merseyside Police shortly after 5pm on May 14, a spokesperson said: “A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and will be taken to a police station for questioning.
“The school removed their lockdown earlier this afternoon.”
In a letter to parents, seen by the ECHO, the school said it was in lockdown as a “precaution” to ensure the safety of students and staff.
It advised parents to not attend the school as staff focused on the situation saying further updates would be provided when able. The complete letter stated: “Childwall Sports and Science Academy is currently in a lockdown as a precaution to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
“Please do not come to the school at this time, as staff are focused on managing the situation and will not be available to speak to parents.
“We will provide further updates as soon as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your cooperation.”
When the ECHO visited the school around 1.30pm, cars were observed lining up outside the front of the school with a large gathering of parents and children clustered around the main building’s front entrance.
