Arsenal’s summer looks to be picking up steam as the Gunners ramp up their pursuit of Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes – with the Magpies seemingly naming their price.

The Gunners’ transfer business this summer has left fans wanting more – Piero Hincapie’s loan spell was made permanent last month for £34.5million, Soon after, Arsenal confirmed the arrival of third-choice keeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United.

Their first significant fresh recruit was Christos Tzolis, with the Greek international’s £34million switch from Club Brugge completed earlier this week. Daily Star Sport looks at two of the latest transfer developments concerning the north London club that share a common thread.

Newcastle are reportedly growing exasperated with Arsenal over their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes. Recent reports have suggested that the Gunners are set to table a £70m bid in an attempt to secure the services of the Brazilian midfielder, reports the Mirror.

However, this sum falls short of Newcastle’s valuation of the28-year-old and is almost guaranteed to be rebuffed. After six weeks of transfer speculation surrounding Guimaraes, the Magpies’ decision makers are reportedly becoming irritated by Arsenal’s lack of a substantial approach.

Sky Sports reports that the club’s position is unequivocal – they will not entertain discussions over the midfielder unless Arsenal present a serious financial proposal.

A bid of £80m is reportedly viewed as the minimum acceptable offer, and £85m could potentially compel Newcastle into making a tough call, especially after already witnessing star players Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon leave this summer.

Vieira himself is believed to be optimistic that a deal can be struck, having spent the previous season on loan at Hamburg. The Portuguese playmaker, 26, was instrumental for the team last season, notching up seven goals and five assists in league competition alone.

He is reportedly enamoured with the club, the city and the coach, with a permanent transfer being his preferred option. However, Vieira has returned to Arsenal for pre-season training in the interim while all parties strive to determine his future.
