‘I could not imagine what Victoria Beckham did at son’s social gathering – everyone was watching’

Victoria Beckham has been painted in an unexpected light after one former footballer detailed what the Spice Girl did at a birthday party

Victoria Beckham has never been one to shy away from causing a stir.

Following fresh claims from her son Brooklyn Beckham regarding her conduct away from the public eye, an old story has re-emerged that offers a contrasting, yet still eyebrow-raising, glimpse of the former pop star.

The fashion designer has found herself under intense scrutiny this week after Brooklyn shared a fiery statement on Instagram. On Monday, the 26-year-old – the eldest child of Victoria and Sir David Beckham – publicly criticised his parents in a blunt and emotional post. He alleged that he had been “controlled” throughout his life and accused them of attempting to “ruin” his marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham.

Several of Brooklyn’s most severe claims were directed at his mother. He alleged that she “cancelled” making Nicola’s wedding dress shortly before the ceremony. He also said she referred to him as “evil” and “hijacked” the couple’s first dance, before dancing “very inappropriately”.

Although none of these accusations have been verified, they have reignited discussion around Victoria’s behaviour at family gatherings – and this isn’t the first time her conduct at one of her son’s celebrations has drawn attention.

In 2007, not long after Sir David’s high-profile move to LA Galaxy, the Beckhams hosted a birthday party for one of their children. Players from the club attended alongside their families. Years later, Carlos Pavon Jr – the son of former Galaxy forward Carlos Pavon – shared a memory from the event that cast Victoria in an unexpected light, particularly among the children.

“I was playing with [Beckham’s] son on the inflatable trampoline and we were jumping, and then out of nowhere, I notice the kid’s mum comes in, David’s wife, Victoria,” Pavon Jr said on the La Pelota Al DIEZ podcast.

“She started jumping with us and I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this with Victoria Beckham,’ so I think that was the funniest thing. Everybody saw when she came in and started jumping with us, so when I came out, I think they all saw my surprised face, like, ‘Wow, that just happened.’ It was really funny.”

Strains within the Beckham household are said to have been building for some time. Brooklyn and Nicola began dating in 2019, became engaged a year later – and married in 2022. While the early stages of their relationship were reportedly harmonious, tensions surfaced as the wedding approached.

Much of the discord is believed to stem from the situation surrounding Nicola’s bridal gown. She was initially expected to wear a dress created by Victoria’s fashion brand, but instead chose a bespoke Valentino design for the ceremony.

Brooklyn has insisted the switch was not voluntary. He claims Victoria “cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour… forcing her to urgently find a new dress.” He has also said that on the eve of the wedding, relatives told him Nicola was “not blood” and “not family.”

In another allegation, Brooklyn stated that Victoria called him “evil” during seating discussions because he and Nicola chose to place their grandmothers at the head table instead of prioritising his parents.

Speculation about a family split grew, although several public appearances together temporarily eased concerns. Matters worsened in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola did not attend David’s 50th birthday celebrations. Later, David and Victoria were absent from the couple’s vow renewal, reinforcing the perception of a serious rift.

Reports in December last year claimed that Brooklyn had blocked his parents and siblings across social media platforms. Shortly afterwards, he was said to have sent a legal notice instructing that all communication be handled through his lawyers.

“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” Brooklyn said on Monday. “Unfortunately my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life. For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family.

“The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”

He continued: “My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped… My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”

He concluded by repeating: “My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.”

On Tuesday, Sir David addressed the situation publicly for the first time. The former England and Manchester United captain admitted that his children had “made mistakes” online, but emphasised that they are “allowed” to do so as part of growing up.

“What kids can access these days, it can be dangerous. But what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons,” he told CNBC. “I’ve been able to use my platform for my following, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.

“And I have tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids.”
