The latest fired candidate on The Apprentice has hit back at their ‘unfair and disappointing’ sacking in the boardroom – as Lord Sugar sent them packing.
The contestant hit out that they ‘took the bullet’ for one of their rival stars on the BBC business programme following the chicken and the egg challenge.
On Thursday, the third episode of the new series of The Apprentice saw the candidates tasked with hatching a plan to turn poultry into profit.
One team was given 25 kilos of chicken, while the other 25 kilos of eggs, in order to create a dish to serve to the public and bring in the cash, as well as serving up canapes at a corporate client event.
Tanmay Hingorani, Megan Ruiter and Carrington Saunders found themselves in the firing line following the task, after the negotiation at the corporate event went sour.
Team leader Carrington was quick to blame the team’s loss on the negotiation made by Tanmay and Megan, who had to battle it out in the boardroom.

Tanmay has hit out at his ‘unfair’ firing – insisting that it should have been Megan who took the fall for the group and sacked from the show
Lord Sugar eventually pointed his finger at Tanmay for securing the low deal, and he became the fourth candidate to leave the competition.
Now, Tanmay has hit out at his ‘unfair’ firing – insisting that it should have been Megan who took the fall for the group and sacked from the show.
He said: ‘When we went into the negotiation, I was looking forward to it – I see negotiation as an art form, but that negotiation didn’t become a nice piece of art.
‘Karishma started with a monologue which set the tempo and then Megan came through and set the price ceiling by saying £12, and I shook the hand on £11.80 trying to salvage it.
‘I am disappointed for it to end this way… I did take the bullet in the boardroom and I do think it was unfair. But you win some and you lose some.’
Passing the blame further to Megan, he continued: ‘I don’t think I deserved it – at the time, sitting in the boardroom, it was a lot closer and I remember in the moment thinking it could probably go either way.
‘Looking back, it should have been Megan. I don’t think there is even an argument for it to have been anyone else.’
Asked if he would’ve done anything differently, he said: ‘Well, I wouldn’t have shaken the corporate client’s hand!

Tanmay admits he’s learned a lot from his experience on the BBC show, explaining: ‘I have learnt that I can probably do anything now’
‘I would have just let Megan continue walking the line she was on. When that ceiling was set by Megan, I should have had a bit more self-awareness and pulled the group back.
‘But, because we were going so quick, which I am not saying was my fault, I think it would have been sensible to put a stop to things and bring everyone back and just realign on what we were trying to do.’
Nonetheless, Tanmay admits he’s learned a lot from his experience on the BBC show, explaining: ‘I have learnt that I can probably do anything now.
‘I think I was already confident, but it has given me more confidence that I can do anything I want to do. I can put my mind to it and do it.
‘It has also given me the confidence in my ability to work with people of different backgrounds and temperaments, as you know, some are fierier than others. It was good to handle big personalities.
‘I also learnt that I am good at reading people and building rapport.
‘Although the process taught me that there are moments where leadership means pausing the room when momentum is moving too fast, especially when decisions affect value.’
He also placed his backing behind his co-star Kieran McCartney to win, saying that if he was Lord Sugar, it would be the estate agent that they would hire.
Tanmay concluded: ‘I personally would hire Kieran because I think he has had a bit of a character arc, in my opinion.
‘He has come out as this boisterous character but I think it is rare to have the gift of the gab, which Keiran has.
‘He also has all this charisma and personality, which I think is rare in business. I think people who do have that gift, are not always the best, but Keiran is good.
‘I shared a room with Kieran, so I also know he is a big softy. He would always jump up and start cleaning the room on the day off at like 8am!’
The Apprentice continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Thursdays at 9pm
