Footballer fights for all times and supervisor damage as automotive hits crowd after ‘altercation’

A footballer is fighting for his life and the club manager has been injured after a car struck a group of people in Nottinghamshire – a 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder

A footballer is battling for his life after he and the club manager were struck when a car allegedly rammed into pedestrians in a town centre. Emergency services rushed to Market Place in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, just after 1pm on Saturday following reports that a red Vauxhall Astra had crashed into a crowd of people.

Woodthorpe Park Rangers FC released a statement on X, previously known as Twitter, this morning stating: “3 members of our team including the manager was struck by a car in Arnold town centre, this has left one of our players fighting for his life in hospital.”

The club, which competes in the Nottinghamshire Senior League, had been marking their end-of-season awards prior to the accident. Nottinghamshire Police reported that the incident occurred following an “altercation” in the town centre shortly before.

A group of individuals were hit by the vehicle, with one man sustaining life-threatening injuries and four other men suffering less severe injuries, reports the Mirror.

The car was left at the scene after the incident, with the driver escaping on foot. A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police announced on Saturday evening.

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is heading the investigation, stated: “We have shared this important update with the family of the seriously injured man and they are being supported by specialist officers.

“We would ask that people do not speculate about the circumstances around the incident and respect the privacy of those involved. Our investigation remains ongoing and we are keeping an open mind while these extensive inquiries continue.
