In full: Police statement on Huntingdon train stabbings
Video footage has captured police using a taser and restraining a suspect following a multiple stabbing incident on a train yesterday (November 1).
The service was travelling between Doncaster and London King’s Cross.
In the footage, a man dressed entirely in black can be seen being pinned to the ground on the platform at Huntingdon Station.
One officer is heard yelling: “Get him in a f***ing hold!”.
The man allegedly shouted “kill me” several times before he was arrested.
Police confirmed this morning that two men – a 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent – have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, reports the Express.
British Transport Police (BTP) Superintendent John Loveless stated: “Two men were brought into police custody, where they remain this morning.”
A total of 11 people received hospital treatment, with two still in a “life-threatening condition”.
Police revealed that 10 people were transported to hospital by ambulance, with one additional person presenting themselves later that evening.
Initially, nine were thought to have life-threatening injuries after assessment and treatment. Four have since been discharged.
The incident is not believed to be terror-related.
Viorel, 42, a taxi driver who filmed the footage, told The Sun that before the arrest, the man was screaming “kill me, kill me, kill me” at officers.
Counter-terrorism police initially assisted with the operation, but Superintendent Loveless confirmed the incident is no longer being treated as terrorism-related. He stated: “British Transport Police declared a major incident yesterday, and counter-terrorism policing were initially supporting our investigation.”
He added: “However, at this stage, there is nothing to suggest that this is a terrorist incident.
“This is a British Transport Police investigation, and we continue to work to establish at pace, the full circumstances and the motivations that have led to this incident.”
“At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the cause of this incident.”
Armed police officers from Cambridgeshire police boarded the train and apprehended the two suspects within eight minutes of the emergency call being placed.
Superintendent Loveless further noted that commuters could anticipate a “high visibility presence of police officers at stations and on trains throughout today, up and down the transport network.”
He added: “Our officers are there to reassure the public and to address any concerns they may have.”
