Man ‘ran to McDonald’s soaked in blood and fearing for his life’ after alleged ‘stabbing’

A man was left fearing for his life after he ran to a McDonald’s for help while soaked in blood following an alleged “stabbing” in a major UK city centre.

Cory Evans, 28, was left “fearing for his life” after the incident in Edinburgh on Sunday (November 16) at 8:50am.

Speaking to EdinburghLive, he describes the alleged attack which he claims left ‘blood everywhere’ as a major police presence descended on London Road, near McDonald’s.

Cory claims to have lost consciousness and woke up in the intensive care unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The dad of three said he is “just thankful to be alive”.

Cory said: “Blood was coming out of me everywhere. I ran to the McDonald’s on London Road and blood was squirting out of me.”

Police Scotland confirmed they received a report of a disturbance on London Road and a 30-year-old man was arrested in connection. He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday (November 17).

Cory continued: “I didn’t know where I was. I had a ventilator down my throat which was breathing for me.

“I was out for around 12 to 18 hours. I remembered what happened but it was scary. I was happy I had my life but wasn’t sure if I was still going to die. I was trying to pull the pipe out of my throat, I was panicking.”

“I am just thankful to be alive. It breaks your heart knowing your life can be taken away.”

Corry is father of three young boys aged 4, 6, and 10, as well as a young girl who sadly passed away in 2014.

His mum also tragically passed away in July this year as he moved to Scotland from Skegness for a fresh start.

Cory added: “I’ve lost my daughter and my mum and I came to Edinburgh for a new life and then someone tries to take my life.

“My partner could have lost her partner. I’ve got cousins, aunties. If you’re going to take someone’s life [that is] someone’s child, dad, brother, uncle [you are taking].”

As soon as he was discharged from hospital, Cory returned to the London Road McDonald’s to personally thank everyone who helped save his life.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40am on Sunday, 16 November, 2025, we received a report of a disturbance on London Road, Edinburgh.

“One man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. A 30-year-old male has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
