Southall warehouse hearth as 100 firefighters battle large blaze as ‘explosions’ heard
Residents have reported hearing ‘explosion after explosion’ after a huge fire broke out at a warehouse in Southall, Ealing this morning (November 25)
A massive blaze has erupted at a warehouse in west London. Approximately 100 firefighters, spread across 15 fire engines, are battling the inferno on Bridge Road in Southall. The London Fire Brigade was alerted to the incident at 8.55am. Firefighting teams from Southall, Heston, Ealing and nearby stations have been dispatched to the scene, reports MyLondon.
There is heavy traffic in the area. Photos shared on X show flames flickering from the site, as thick plumes of black smoke fill West London’s skyline and can be seen for miles. Some reported hearing explosions. MyLondon spoke to local resident Anya, who said she thought the ‘explosions were fireworks’.
She said: “I was doing my own thing and I kept hearing explosion sounds, and I’m so used to that sound because it’s Southall and people have been doing fireworks, so I didn’t think about it as it’s day time.
“Then I started hearing sirens and [more] explosions, much stronger than normal fireworks. And I looked and the warehouse had the biggest fire I’ve ever seen and largest smoke [I’ve ever seen].
“The explosion was going on every 10 seconds half an hour ago. Explosion after explosion, it’s still exploding now but not as frequently. It was a small portion of the warehouse and it’s now extended to the entirety of it – it’s burning the entire place down.”
She continued: “I was starting to panic, if it comes closer we’ll leave the building.”
Residents are being urged to keep doors and windows shut due to the volume of smoke. It is not clear if there have been any injuries, but the London Ambulance Service has been asked for more information.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are responding to a fire on Bridge Road, Southall. The fire is located in a two storey structure consisting of a warehouse and retail space.
“Traffic in the area will be impacted as crews respond. The Brigade was first called about the incident at 8.55, and crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing and surrounding fire stations have been sent to the scene.
“The cause of the fire is not yet known.”
The LFB has told MyLondon that the building ‘is fully alight, internally and externally’. They said: “The damage caused makes it look run down. [It] looks like an end-of-terrace typpe warehouse.”
It is not spreading, but more crews are being sent to the scene.
The incident is likely to ‘go on for a long time’.
The London Ambulance Serivce confirmed nobody has been injured so far.
It said: “We were called at 9am this morning (November 25) to reports of a fire in Bridge Road, Southall. We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
“We are still at the scene alongside colleagues from the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service. There have been no patients so far.”
