One particular person ‘useless’ after U-Haul explodes in strip mall car parking zone in Idaho close to an Old Navy

A U-Haul exploded on Saturday morning in a strip mall parking lot in Lewiston, Idaho, police confirmed to the Daily Mail.

The Lewiston Police Department said one person died in the blast outside an Old Navy store that left the truck blown to smithereens with all of its contents scattered across the parking lot. The victim’s identity has not been released.

A woman named Becki Williams uploaded the first image of the truck to X at 11:55am, writing: ‘What could have caused that!? It was early, away from people and buildings, but it was felt and heard a long way from the scene. This is a tiny retirement town, what the heck!?’

A video she uploaded showed firefighters and police officers wading through the wreckage to figure out what happened. Authorities put up yellow caution tape to keep bystanders from getting too close.

The U-Haul was not on fire in the video, but it’s not clear if that was because the fire department had already put it out.

Police are still on the scene and have not made an official statement, other than to say that the incident is under investigation.

Nearby stores are remaining open, but police have cautioned shoppers to keep a safe distance away from the truck.

Police also said there is no threat to the public, adding that no criminal activity is suspected at this time.
