Rebel Wilson is accused of calling actress a ‘prostitute’ after sharing racy Instagram submit of two ladies – as she is grilled in defamation case

Pitch Perfect star Rebel Wilson is being cross-examined for a third day in the defamation case against her by the lead actor in her directorial debut, The Deb.

Charlotte MacInnes launched civil proceedings after Wilson publicly accused her of complaining about sexual harassment by the film’s senior producer, Amanda Ghost, after a sunset swim at Bondi Beach in September 2023.

Ghost had a severe reaction to the cold, so MacInnes took her back to their Bondi penthouse rental and ran a hot bath. MacInnes also jumped into the bath because she was cold. Both were wearing swimmers.

Wilson claims MacInnes later confided in her about how uncomfortable she felt about the situation. She has also accused MacInnes of lying about making the complaint about it after she was offered a record deal and a lead role in one of Ghost’s other productions.

MacInnes denies the sexual harassment occurred. She also denies making a complaint and lying about making a complaint in return for a music contract.

Rebel Wilson accused of calling a young star a ‘prostitute’

Rebel Wilson has been accused of calling Charlotte MacInnes a ‘prostitute’ in a racy Instagram post from March this year.

Wilson uploaded the post to her Instagram stories in March with the caption: ‘To my knowledge, MacInnes only has a few thousand fans so it is odd she’s the recipient of such a deal and lives a lux international lifestyle as seen on her social media.’

The post shows two women in a highly sexual position on the floor. The court previously heard MacInnes is not one of the women in the photo.

In court on Thursday, MacInnes’ lawyer Sue Chrysanthou SC said: ‘You effectively named her a prostitute.’

Wilson replied: ‘I have never used that word in relation to Ms MacInnes.’

Ms Chrysanthou asked Wilson if she meant to imply MacInnes was a prostitute.

Wilson said she did not.

Rebel Wilson defends her Instagram rage posts, telling the court ‘I’m a professional person’

Rebel Wilson has been blasted over a series of Instagram posts about Charlotte MacInnes where she accuses her of cultural appropriation, blocking The Deb’s release, and ‘flip-flopping’ about sexual harassment claims.

In court on Thursday, Sue Chrysanthou SC pointed to a Daily Mail article featuring a number of scathing posts about MacInnes, by Wilson.

One post featured an image of MacInnes singing a song from The Deb on billionaire Len Blavatnik’s super yacht.

Wilson told the court she received the image from a hate group on Instagram.

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘So someone who doesn’t like my client sent you a picture of her singing and you felt the need to post about it?’

Wilson said: ‘Yes, obviously I was emotional because it’s a passion project – I worked on The Deb for five years and it wasn’t being sold because of litigation that Charlotte was assisting.’

Ms Chrysanthiou said: ‘So you’re attacking her because you were upset … Do you accept what you did to her in publishing this post?’

Wilson said: ‘No, I don’t.’

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘OK, well let’s go through it. You accused her of cultural appropriation.’

On the super yacht, MacInnes wore a long, baby blue dress with a sheer scarf over her arms and head.

Wilson said: ‘To me, the outfit looks like a sari and, to my knowledge, Charlotte is not of Indian heritage.’

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘Do you think it’s OK for a person in your position to attack someone in her position for what she was wearing?’

Wilson said she believed her post to be true.

Ms Chrysanthou continued: ‘There are lots of things about a woman’s appearance that could be true, but it’s utterly inappropriate for someone to comment about it?

‘Is it OK for someone in your position to comment on what someone was wearing at a function?’

Wilson said: ‘I don’t see any problem.’

Ms Chrysanthou pointed out that MacInnes’ outfit was not Indian. Wilson said she believed it was.

She asked whether Wilson accepted the comments about MacInnes were damaging.

Wilson said: ‘Absolutely not, I’m a professional person.’

Ms Chrysanthou asked: ‘Did you just say you’re a professional person?’

‘You put up a Instagram post publicly accusing her of being for sale, in a film where people have invested $22million?’

Wilson said she was been slammed by crisis management firms ’employed by Russian oligarch billionaire’ Len Blavatnik.

Wilson then confirmed that she was paid about $1million for the film, was owed another $500,000, and that she was not living on the poverty line.

Rebel Wilson accused of trolling cast and crew with fake email accounts, stalking a young actor, and lying about it for her own benefit

Rebel Wilson has been accused of stalking Charlotte MacInnes, hiring people to access her Snapchat account to leak a nude photo, making fake email addresses, and lying about the young star for her own benefit.

Sue Chrysanthou SC said: ‘Every time you refer to my client by name … you did it for your own gain. Every public statement, every email where you referred to sexual harassment … you didn’t do that out of any concern for her.’

Wilson disagreed, claiming she had MacInnes’ wellbeing at the forefront of her mind.

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘You have done this utterly for yourself.’

Wilson said: ‘I have received no benefit from this experience that has led to a court case with Ms MacInnes, all I’ve done is tell the truth – to significant detriment.

‘I’ve been bullied and harassed because I’ve said the truth to many people, some of whom were rich and powerful.’

Ms Chrysanthou pointed to the power disparity between Wilson and MacInnes, saying: ‘To my client, you were rich and powerful.’

Wilson said she wasn’t aware of MacInnes’ financial means, noting again that she appeared to live a ‘rich and lavish lifestyle’.

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘You only know what my client is up to because you’ve been stalking and following her.’

Wilson almost laughed, saying: ‘That is absolute nonsense.’

Ms Chrysanthou asked: ‘Did you arrange for someone to get her Snapchat?’

Wilson said: ‘That’s an outrageous claim to say in court, that I moonlight as a hacker.’

The court previously heard a nude photo was leaked from MacInnes’ Snapchat. MacInnes accused Wilson of leaking the image.

Ms Chrysanthou asked whether Wilson had organised for someone to get MacInnes’ Snapchat, to which Wilson replied: ‘Obviously not.’

Wilson was then accused of linking the Amanda Ghost smear websites on her own Instagram page – which Wilson said she couldn’t recall doing.

She was also accused of creating fake email addresses and emailing The Deb’s cast and crew with claims about Ghost, along with links to the smear websites.

Wilson denied those claims.

Rebel Wilson grilled over scathing smear websites about her co-producer

Rebel Wilson has been questioned about the content of a smear campaign against The Deb’s co-producer, Amanda Ghost.

The sites, amandaghost.com and amandaghostsucks.com, contained a raft of criminal allegations against Ghost, describing her as the Indian version of Ghislaine Maxwell.

Maxwell trafficked teenage girls for paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

The sites also accused Ms Ghost of stealing writing credits from Shakira and others, and were allegedly created at the behest of Wilson.

The court previously heard Wilson’s company, Camp Sugar, emailed a crisis PR firm about the websites.

Wilson on Tuesday denied commissioning the sites, but she agreed the PR firm was hired on her behalf by a member of her legal team.

She denied writing the copy for the sites.

On Thursday, Ms Chrysanthou told the court there were similarities between Wilson’s evidence and aspects of copy on the smear sites.

She drew the court’s attention to Wilson’s evidence earlier this week, when she said Ghost was spitting with rage when she found out Charlotte MacInnes had allegedly accused her of sexual harassment in September 2023.

Wilson said: ‘I remember her being very angry about Charlotte confiding in me.’

‘I can’t tell you how she was feeling, I can tell you we walked down the road and she got very angry and I could see she was angry because she wears a retainer and she was forcefully speaking and spit was coming out of her mouth.’

Ms Chrysanthou said Wilson had never mentioned Ghost being angry, to the point of spitting, before. She said: ‘You made that up – you have never said that before today.’

However, on Thursday Ms Chrysanthou suggested to Wilson that the retainer information had been mentioned before – on the Amanda Ghost smear websites.

Copy from those sites has been released by the Federal Court.

Describing the alleged theft of writing credits by Ghost, the copy says: ‘This is a David v Goliath situation whereby the “Davids” are talented and often empathetic artists, often newcomers to the entertainment business and the Goliath is a fifty year old Indian woman who viciously spits out of her mouth retainer as she instructs her henchmen to destroy people.’

‘Is it any wonder that Academy Award winners such as Margot Robbie and Baz Luhrmann choose to never work with Ghost again?

‘Also, why even bother wearing a retainer at such an old age? Ghost is as ugly on the outside as she is on the inside. She is rotten to the core. And now the stench of her wrongdoings are so strong they can’t be ignored.’

In court, Wilson denied writing the copy for the smear sites.

Rebel Wilson grilled over ‘disappearing’ messages with an online hate group

Rebel Wilson received hundreds of Instagram messages about Charlotte MacInnes’ ‘lush lavish lifestyle’ from users in a hate group.

MacInnes blocked Wilson on Instagram, but users from a group called ‘I hate Amanda Ghost fan club’ sent her a barrage of messages about MacInnes’ whereabouts between 2022 and 2026.

In court on Thursday, Sue Chrysanthou asked Wilson how she knew what LA hotel MacInnes was staying at in September 2025.

Wilson’s legal team had organised for MacInnes to be served a subpoena. Wilson told the court she had a video of MacInnes being served outside Warner Music studios.

Ms Chrysanthou said her client was served at her hotel.

Wilson said she didn’t know how her lawyers knew where MacInnes would be.

She asked: ‘When did these people start telling you about my client’s whereabouts?’

Wilson said messages from the hate group were often about Ghost, but there were some details about MacInnes.

Ms Chrysanthou asked: ‘What was the content of these messages that told you where my client was, from time to time?’

Wilson said: ‘Sometimes they would send screenshots of her social media because she doesn’t hide where she is – she shows her lush lavish lifestyle.’

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘Are you saying the information you had about Ms MacInnes came from random people contacting you on social media?’

Wilson said the messages were ‘disappearing’, which meant they expired after a certian amount of time. As a result, she could not provide any to the court.

Rebel Wilson to be cross-examined for a third day

Rebel Wilson will be cross-examined for a third day by defamation barrister Sue Chrysanthou SC in the Federal Court in Sydney.

On Wednesday, Wilson told the court she regularly receives information about Charlotte MacInnes from an Instagram group called the ‘I hate Amanda Ghost fan club’.

She explained that MacInnes blocked her on social media, so she can’t look for herself.

Wilson also claimed Ghost was spitting with rage when she found out that a young actor had allegedly accused her of sexual harassment.

She told the court that she told Ghost about the alleged complaint during a walk to Bourke Street Bakery in Callan Park, in Sydney’s inner-west, days after the Bondi incident.

Wilson said: ‘I remember her being very angry about Charlotte confiding in me.’

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘She never said anything about Charlotte confiding in you – you’re including that additional bit.’

Wilson said: ‘I can’t tell you how she was feeling, I can tell you we walked down the road and she got very angry and I could see she was angry because she wears a retainer and she was forcefully speaking and spit was coming out of her mouth.’

Ms Chrysanthou pointed out that Wilson had never mentioned Ghost being angry, to the point of spitting, before. She said: ‘You made that up – you have never said that before today.’

Wilson said: ‘It’s in my affidavit that she reacted angrily.’

Ms Chrysanthou said: ‘You also said in your affidavit that Ghost said Ms MacInnes was a “…lying idiot who cannot sing” – that’s made up?’

Wilson said: ‘No, you included that to make Ms Ghost look bad.’

Wilson was also asked why she organised a group trip to Hamilton Island for MacInnes and Ghost when she believed there was a sexual harassment claim between them.

The getaway also took place soon after the ill-fated Bondi swim in September 2023.

Ms Chrysanthou asked: ‘You didn’t think Ms MacInnes had been sexually harassed?’

Wilson said she felt confused at the time, and she wasn’t sure exactly what happened.

The hearing resumes at 9.30am.
