A ‘cannibal storm’ is heading to Earth – and Baba Vanga predicted it
From her rise to fame during the dark days of the Second World War, Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga was renowned for her ability to foretell the future and made an eerie prediction that is set to come true
A rare “cannibal storm” set to hit Earth and cause widespread power outages may have been predicted by blind psychic Baba Vanga as part of her doomsday prophecy. The Balkan Nostradamus said Earth would be hit by a devastating solar storm which could have calamitous consequences. Her eerie prediction was reportedly set for 2023, but it never materialised.
However, experts at the British Geological Survey (BGS) this week warned the largest solar storm to hit our planet for more than 20 years will disrupt communications and satellite navigation systems.
And it has the potential to be a ‘cannibal storm’, feeding from another solar storm earlier this week, which has already been interfering with communications and satellite navigation. In the US it delayed a planned NASA space launch.
A rocket was due to take off from Florida carrying twin spacecrafts that are going to study Mars, but the extreme solar weather meant the launch could be dangerous, so it was postponed.
On Earth, stargazers were treated to a dazzling display of the Northern Lights, which happens when solar particles meet the Earth’s atmosphere, creating an amazing light show. When solar storms are raging, the moving glow can be all the stronger
And current predictions suggest a second storm, feeding off the earlier one by consuming the wave, could have further impacts on space and ground-based technologies.
Early indications such as ground measurements of solar energetic particles are some of the largest recorded since 2005, boffins warned.
The solar storm is a result of the sun going through an active phase experiencing coronal mass ejections, which are large expulsions that send solar particles towards the Earth, the Met Office said.
Blind since childhood, Bulgarian Baba was reputed to be a clairvoyant, able to see far into the future. She died in 1996 but her prophecies still cause a stir. She is said to have predicted huge global events like the 9/11 terror attacks and even Brexit.
Before her death, she is said to have made predictions extending far into the future, with some claiming they continue up to the year 5079.
The most dramatic example of a solar in recorded history was the Carrington Event of 1859. Named after British astronomer Richard Carrington, it knocked out telegraph networks and even caused fires and electric shocks.
