Teacher, 28, arrested for ‘having intercourse’ with boy, 14, then stalking him from with numbers

Teresa Whalin, 28, has been arrested and charged with mutliple disturbing crimes after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old pupil and then stalking him after he dumped her.

A teacher is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student and then pursuing him relentlessly after he severed all contact. Teresa Whalin, 28, is alleged to have engaged in a sexual relationship with the pupil whilst also swapping explicit images with him.

The educator also supposedly created bogus phone numbers to contact him. The schoolboy reportedly experienced mental health difficulties following the alleged sexual relationship, which started in April 2023.

Court documents revealed the student had described their connection as “dating”, with the pair exchanging Snapchat messages, dining out together, and spending time in her classroom.

The boy apparently severed all contact with the teacher, prompting the teacher to allegedly begin stalking him as she “struggled with the breakup”, according to the affidavit.

Whalin supposedly drove to the student’s house and would appear along his route home from school in Denver, Colorado. When the student disclosed the alleged sexual relationship to a school counsellor on Monday (November 14), authorities were alerted.

Whalin was taken into custody the same day, according to the Denver Post, reports the Mirror. During questioning by police, Whalin reportedly confessed to having a sexual relationship with the pupil and also to sharing nude photographs.

She is said to have acknowledged creating false phone numbers to contact him anonymously, believing it would cause the teenager to seek her support.

Whalin faces charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child and stalking. She has been detained at the Douglas County Detention Centre with bail set at $50,000 (£37,907).

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office released a statement saying: “Whalin has been employed by the Douglas County School District since July 2021. She has been placed on administrative leave.

The Douglas County School District has been notified of the arrest and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.”
